Game Of Thrones Headed Back To SDCC 2019 After A Year’s Absence

Last year was the first for some time that Game of Thrones did not appear at San Diego Comic-Con. Of course, the reason for this was the year delay between Seasons 7 and 8 of the show. But now it seems that there will indeed be a Game of Thrones panel at this year’s SDCC.

According to Deadline many of the cast will appear at this year’s biggest Comic-Con as they had done in previous years, but of course, there is nothing to promote at this time seen as Season 8 was the final season of the show. This will allow the actors and any other crew present to be very open in answering questions about the (now completed) story and the characters they play.

The outlet doesn’t think that showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss will be present at SDCC, probably because they are trying to get things off the ground for their first Star Wars movie which is set for release in December 2022, the first of a reported trilogy of movies from the writing/producing pair. To be honest, I think it may be best that Benioff and Weiss are not present at the Comic-Con this year, because let’s face it, among most Thrones fans their name is mud right now after the rush job that was Season 8.

I also find it staggering that they have put the Season 8 finale up for an Emmy for best writing (see the related section above), because there was a severe lack of dialogue in that final episode and it was also written (in my opinion badly) by Benioff and Weiss themselves. In my humble opinion, the second episode of Game of Thrones Season 8, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms was far and away the best-written episode of that final season and was actually penned by Bryan Cogman as opposed to Benioff and Weiss. Saying that, even then it was nowhere near the level we have come to expect from the previous seasons of Game of Thrones. Whereas, fans are pretty united in their praise of the actors and the crew that worked on Season 8 of Thrones, so I feel they will get a far better reception from fans in attendance at this year’s SDCC.

We have no word on which cast members or crew members may be attending the panel yet, but I guess that will all be revealed in time?
