Game of Thrones: The Ending will Never Please Everyone Says Showrunner

April 14 is a day I am already getting excited for, possibly even more than the many top movies we have coming out this year. Of course, April 14 is the day Game of Thrones final season premieres on HBO. Game of Thrones may well be my current favorite story… period, and as such, I have speculated upon and imagined what would happen at the end of this tale told across 10 years.

How do you end something as big as Game of Thrones? Whatever the answer you give to that question, it’s likely not to be the same one as anyone else would choose. The problem is, we have speculated upon so many theories and clues that everyone seems to want something different from this final season and there is a distinct possibility some fans may be left disappointed by it.

What is clear is that IF author George Martin ever finishes his books, they are likely to have quite a different ending to the TV show and that’s pretty unique in itself. We have a story that starts the same way and yet veers off into different branches. Martin may have given showrunners Weiss and Benioff a rough idea of the ending, but even he cannot fully comprehend it before he has written it.

As covered by EW co-showrunner DB Weiss spoke about how they want to give the best ending they can, but they concede even doing that could disappoint some fans.

“We want people to love it, it matters a lot to us. We’ve spent 11 years doing this. We also know no matter what we do, even if it’s the optimal version, that a certain number of people will hate the best of all possible versions. There is no version where everybody says, ‘I have to admit, I agree with every other person on the planet that this is the perfect way to do this’ — that’s an impossible reality that doesn’t exist. I’m hoping for the Breaking Bad [finale] argument where it’s like, ‘Is that an A or an A+?’ From the beginning we’ve talked about how the show would end. A good story isn’t a good story if you have a bad ending. Of course we worry.”

That finale will air on May 19 and no doubt the entire world will be discussing it and pulling it apart. You better believe I will be writing about it on here, and we will see what fans think of their finale.
