Game Show Revivals Coming To ABC

Game shows have been a huge part of the American TV culture primarily taking off in the 50s and 60s.  In more modern time, the genre has somewhat faded, but fear not, some of your favorite game shows may be making a comeback to join the likes of Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune and Family Feud which have stood the tests of time!

Deadline reported that ABC has ordered the revival of some game show classics including Card Sharks (originally running from 1978-1981 and again from 1986-1989) and Press your Luck (originally ran from 1983 -1986). Even though they have not revealed any release dates yet, production is set to begin as early as this spring. These aren’t the first game shows that ABC has brought back to life as they currently air Match Game, $100,000 Pyramid, Celebrity Family Feud, and To Tell the Truth.

I used to LOVE Press Your Luck.  No whammy’s, no whammy’s, no whammy’s!! I remember coming home and watching reruns of it after school with many other classics!  I think this is a great move for ABC as they look to be bringing some family classics back during the age of reality TV.  Below you can check out summaries for the upcoming revivals.

Press Your Luck “Three contestants compete against each other answering questions to earn spins on the Big Board. Contestants then use their spins to win cash and prizes while trying to avoid the Whammy, who could take all of their winnings and leave them with nothing. The winning contestant moves on to the All-New Bonus Round to face the Whammy in a final battle for the chance to win a fortune.”

Card Sharks— “Features two players who face off in a head-to-head elimination game with the goal of one player making it to the grand prize winning deck. Each contestant has to decide if the odds are worth the risk of losing it all and making it to the big game. Ultimately, players can either take their earned cash and quit or continue betting with the hope of reaching the top for a chance to take home a major cash prize.”

What do you think?  Will you be tuning in, or have the days of game shows passed for you?  Leave your thoughts in the usual spot, and thanks for reading!
