Bit of fact and rumor in this one as Garret Dillahunt joins Lanterns and The Centre Cult could be the DCU’s first Big Bad. Given a few hints and rumors flying around fans are starting to think that villainous cult group The Centre may be getting set up as the big bad of this first chapter of the DCU. First though lets look at what Deadline reported around Garret Dillahunt’s casting.
‘Garret Dillahunt (Fear The Walking Dead) has been tapped for a major recurring role in Lanterns, HBO’s drama series based on the Green Lantern DC comic. He joins leads Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre and series regular Kelly MacDonald.’
‘Dillahunt will play modern cowboy William Macon, a self-righteous, conspiracy-minded man who masks his ruthless ambition behind a charming and calculated facade. Macdonald plays Sheriff Kerry.’
The conspiracy minded part of the report above has got fans talking. Mainly due to some rumors that a conspiracy may be going on in Lanterns. This has some fans wondering if The Centre could be the big bad of the first chapter of the DCU.

Some context.
The chapter title, Gods and Monsters links to the comic book New Frontier. That comic book has The Centre as the villain. This group ultimately is controlled by what in the comics seemed to be a sentient floating island full of dinosaurs. Ultimately the deal is that this entity doesn’t like surface dwellers, having come from inside the Earth and it wants to put and end to it. Under anyone else I’d say it sounds crazy, but I could see James Gunn making this actually work.
There are a few trusted leakers who have hinted, (rather than outright claimed) this is the case. Either way, it’s worth keeping an eye on when Creature Commandos arrives. Rumor is seeds for The Centre could be sown there first.
