The Penguin Episode 7 Review – Oz Is Despicable And You’ll Love It

Time for my The Penguin Episode 7 review and Oz is just so despicable you'll love it, a great penultimate episode.

Time for my The Penguin Episode 7 review and Oz is just so despicable you’ll love it, a great penultimate episode. As always I’m going to be staying SPOILER FREE on this review, meaning I’ll be vague on plot details.

If you have been watching, you know where we stand going into Episode 7. However, the episode begins with a flashback to Oz’s youth. We finally find out just what happened to his brothers Jack and Benny. I won’t spoil anything, but damn that was some uncomfortable TV to watch. Then again, that’s what sets this series apart, it’s not afraid to get darker and darker.

We also get a bit a showdown this week, which had an unexpected and interesting conclusion. Farrell and Milioti as usual steal the show and both have some powerful scenes in this penultimate episode. The stage is now set for a big face off in the finale.

I also enjoyed some touches in the flashback sections which hint at Oz’s future as the crime boss The Penguin. Perhaps they are just nods to previous versions, perhaps not? The younger cast for Oz and his mother were also brilliant. I think we understand now why Oz’s only weakness is his mother. Why she is all he seems to care about.

Oz also manages to get himself out of some situations which at first seems untenable. Once again showing that his absolute ruthlessness and survival instincts are what sets him apart as a truly evil villain. I was however surprised how little we see of Vic this week. Clearly he will return for the finale, but what has he bene up to off-screen this week? I think we all know the Oz himself survives this gang war, but everyone else’s fate remains to be seen. So far most of the cast hasn’t made it to the finale, so I expect more deaths to come.

Great episode and a great set up for the season finale to come next week.

GRADE: A

I did muse on an A+, but I think episode 5 still is the best episode of the series thus far. Still, another great in the best series I’ve watched this calendar year.

What do you think of my The Penguin Episode 7 review? Do you agree with my takes, do you love it, or have a different take on Episode 7 of The Penguin? Thoughts below as always.
