The athletic actor George Kosturos enjoyed his portrayal of Ali Jahani in 2016’s American Wrestler: The Wizard as a young Iranian college wrestler trying to fit in American society after the hostage crisis in the late 1970s. Now, he returns for the sequel in American Fighter as a more mature warrior who must enter the underground fighting arenas to raise money to get his mother out of Iran.
American Fighter also stars Tommy Flanagan (Sons of Anarchy), Bryan Craig (General Hospital), Allison Paige (The Flash), and Sean Patrick Flanery (The Boondock Saints).
Here’s the official synopsis:
Desperate for cash to save his deathly ill mother, college wrestler Ali (George Kosturos) enters the hidden world of undergound fighting. Ali shows promise, but he lacks skills, and gets beaten bloody. Duke (Sean Patrick Flanery), a troubled handler, takes a pity on the boy and trains him to be a fierce competitor—but is it enough to make Alia a winner?
Alex Ranarivelo directed the movie from the story by Ali Afshar and Brian Rudnick.
