George R.R. Martin Developing Animated Film Based On The Ice Dragon

Deadline reports that Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin has teamed with Warner Animation Group to adapt his 1980 children’s book The Ice Dragon into an animated feature. Because Dragons are so hot right now. It’s all about dragons and zombies in the 21st Century.

Long before Game of Thrones, Martin wrote The Ice Dragon which is not set in the same realm of Martin’s Seven Kingdoms. Rather, The Ice Dragon takes place in a world of medieval fantasy where warring kingdoms harness the power of dragons. Wait… is that any different than GoT?

The Ice Dragon focus on Adara, a young girl who secretly befriends a rare Ice Dragon. Only her new friend can save the day when an army of dragons invade her city. Just the touching story of a girl and her Ice Dragon. Simple.

George R.R. Martin is set to product the film, though no one has yet been hired to write or direct this big-screen adaptation of his children’s novel.

Warner Bros Animation group is the company behind The Lego Movie and its sequels, as well as Storks.
