There is a Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel in development, codenamed Firehouse. The announcement by Sony came yesterday on what they refer to as Ghostbusters day. The sequel, that we already knew was happening, is being developed by Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan. Check it out below.

As you can see by the codename and the description it seems we are going back to New York for this sequel. No other details have been shared, nor any idea of when this movie might go into production. One would assume that Spengler’s family would return, and of the OG crew, I’d except at least Winston. As sequel was already formally announced back at CinemaCon (see related section below) but these details are the first we’eve heard since.
So what can we expect when we look at Afterlife? I’m guessing Viggo has returned, because they’ve already used Gozer twice? In all seriousness though, I certainly hope they create a new villain and a new threat this time around. Rehashing Ghostbusters worked last time for some of the fanbase. However you can’t do it twice and frankly no one wants to copy Ghostbusters 2 anyway.

One character I would like to see involved though is Oscar, the son of Dana Barrett. Given the post-credit scene in Afterlife we can assume that Dana and Peter are still together, but by now Oscar would be all grown up, given he is realistically older than Egon’s daughter. Though, to be fair, Egon’s daughter being the age she is makes absolutely no sense in the first place. Unless Egon had a family prior to the original movie and that doesn’t make sense to what we heard in Afterlife. Making sense canonically however was not the main goal of Afterlife, let’s be honest.
I have no idea whether I’ll be interested in this sequel? I guess we shall have to wait and see how development goes?
For now, let us know what you think of the news there’s a Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel in development, codenamed Firehouse? As always, share any thoughts below, or over on Discord.
