So it’s that time again, time to see how bad Sony can mess up another franchise. I know, I know “the movie isn’t even out yet” and you’re right. However, what is Sony’s track record? See? Exactly why I am so pessimistic. Anyways, there’s been no new trailer for Ghostbusters: Afterlife for a long time. Many fans are excited but the pessimistic fans like me, are more anxious. My BLUF is that I think it could be an entertaining movie, more than 2016’s take, but not a real Ghostbusters film. However, it would be another version of a The Real Ghostbusters film. See more on that here: The Real Ghostbusters: The 80s Toon We All Loved But Ruined The Franchise (A Vicious Love Letter) | LRM’s RetroSpecs. That is not what I, or many fans, want.
The wait for the next trailer isn’t long. The official Ghostbusters Twitter account is teasing the release of “something” tomorrow. Considering the video with it, I think it’s safe to assume that it’s a trailer. See for yourself:

See? They said it’s a trailer in the video! Okay, let’s dig a little into why I am worried. However, you should read the linked piece above for more detail. Ghostbusters 2 was not a Ghostbusters movie. It followed the more kid-friendly antics of the 80’s cartoon called, The Real Ghostbusters. This isn’t a bad thing in general as I love Ghostbusters 2, but as I grew older I saw it differently and could understand why those 10yrs older or more than I didn’t. That brings us to Sony’s new attempt to get your money, Ghostbusters Afterlife. This movie is coming too late on the heels of IT! and Stranger Things. Sony thinks that GB is something for kids, and it is, but it also isn’t. The original film was special and appealed to all. The sequel and this new film do not appear to want to do the same. Instead, we’re getting Ghost-Strange-IT-Busters. Maybe.
