It looks like the Gil-Galad casting for The Rings of Power revealed in the latest post from insider FoF. The source has been extremely accurate with all rumors surrounding Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. That is a bit of a mouthful, thankfully I think we can just call it The Rings of Power from now on. Fans have wondered, or rather pondered whether Gil-Galad would be in the show. Partly because none of the leaks thus far had mentioned the High Elven King of the late Second Age, and there had been no cast member attached.
The idea of Gil-Galad not being around seemed crazy given the late Second Age setting the leaks have all been about. However there was also the chance the character might not appear on screen until Season 2. Well it seems Gil-Galad is in Season 1 of The Rings of Power and he is played by Benjamin Walker.

I guess its is possible that FoF is referring to a new role within Season 2 of the show, and Gil-Galad doesn’t actually show up in Season 1. I just think that would have been made clear if that was the case and so far really there have bene almost no leaks nor news about Season 2 which will film in the U.K. going forward.

For any non-Tolkien fans, or at least movie only fans, you may wonder just who Gil-Galad is. Well, you’ve actually already seen him in the prologue for The Fellowship of the Ring. Gil-Galad was the High King of the Elves during the Last Alliance, just as Elendil was for Men. Both died in battle against Sauron, both in the books and in the movie. You can see Gil-Galad just behind the more familiar Elrond in the shot from the movie below. I think you’ll agree there is a similarity which I think is purposeful where possible so far from Amazon.
None of this is official until Amazon says it is, but so far this source has been almost 100% on leaks for The Rings of Power, so I wouldn’t bet against it.
What do you think of the choice as Gil-Galad casting for The Rings of Power revealed? Thoughts below as always.
