Godzilla Vs. Kong Pushed Back To November 2020

Legendary Picture’s MonsterVerse has now produced three films that started with 2014’s Godzilla directed by Gareth Edwards. This was followed by Kong: Skull Island in 2017 directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts and the latest film Godzilla: King of the Monsters that was released earlier this year directed by Michael Dougherty. These films were all leading up to a head to head between two of the fiercest monsters in cinema. Unfortunately, it looks like we are going to have to wait longer to see it play out in theaters.

According to Variety, Legendary Pictures’ Godzilla vs. Kong has been pushed back eight months and will now be scheduled to debut in theaters on November 20, 2020. The film was originally scheduled for a March 13th, 2020 release. The report states that while Godzilla, grossing $524 million and Kong: Skull Island, grossing $566 million were commercial successes, Godzilla: King of the Monsters only generated $385 million worldwide on a $200 million price tag. With the films only getting bigger and more expensive the studios wanted to take a step back and retool the franchise before releasing it to audiences.

Godzilla vs. Kong, the fourth installment in the Monster Universe, is directed by Adam Wingard with a cast that includes Alexander Skarsgard, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall, and Brian Tyree Henry. This film was going to once again bring back the two giants in what is sure to be an epic battle. The one hurdle that the film has now with this new release date is the fact that Marvel Studios’ Eternals is set to debut two weeks earlier on November 6th, 2020.

It’s disappointing that we are going to have to wait longer to see this film. But if it’s better for the franchise in the long run then it will be worth the wait as many other franchises are cut off due to disappointing box office results. As a fan of these kinds of films I would like to see them continued to be made.
