Gold is the epic tale of one man’s pursuit of the American dream — to discover gold. Oscar® winner Matthew McConaughey stars as Kenny Wells, a prospector desperate for a lucky break, who teams up with a similarly eager geologist, and they set off on an amazing journey to find gold in the uncharted jungle of Indonesia. Getting the gold was hard, but keeping it would be even harder, sparking an adventure through the most powerful boardrooms of Wall Street. The film is inspired by the true story of David Walshand his company falsely claiming the discovery of a massive gold mine in Indonesia.

The home entertainment release is packed with must-see bonus features including: Feature commentary with director Stephen Gaghan, a dynamic deleted sequence of the film, an exploration of the movie’s origins, a journey through Gold’s locations, and a behind-the-scenes look at Matthew McConaughey’s unforgettable performance as Kenny Wells. Gold will be available on Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD for the suggested retail price of $39.99 and $29.95, respectively.

·         Deleted Sequence

The deleted scenes added to this extra do not offer much for the story line with the main scene focused on Kenny and his long-time girlfriend, Kay.

·         Feature Commentary with Director Stephen Gaghan

This feature focuses on Stephen discussing the thematic and technical details of the film.

·         “The Origins of Gold” Featurette

This was my favorite extra of them all.  “The Origins of Gold” gives the background story for whom Kenny Wells was based on.  The featurette focuses on the background story of Kenny Wells, who is based on the man behind the Bre-X Scandal, David Walsh. The Bre-X scandal which took place during the 1990’s saw a small mining company buy land in Indonesia and falsely claim they found a massive gold mine. This featurette gives this crazy movie some validity.

·         “The Locations of Gold” Featurette

A look a the location selections for the movie.  Gold was filmed in five locations: Indonesia, Thailand, Reno, Albuquerque, and New York.  This featurette focuses on the beautiful locations in Indonesia and Thailand where a majority of the mining scenes were filmed.

·         “Matthew McConaughey as Kenny Wells” Featurette

For any fan of Matthew McConaughey this is really for them.  McConaughey and the cast give behind the scene details of his portrayal as Wells.

Overall Gold as a movie tries to make a unpopular real life story into a Hollywood drama that really doesn’t deliver.  For those of you who are interested in the real life story of David Walsh will be disappointed that their wasn’t more added in the Blu-Ray extras.  I would only recommend buying this DVD if you are a Matthew McConaughey fan or into movies based on real life events.
