Gotham’s on the ropes again!
I know, crazy, right? Following the escape of Hugo Strange’s experiments, the city finds itself in more danger than ever before. On top of it all, the city finds itself in need of a new mayor.
Given that it’s an election year, it makes sense that some networks and shows would capitalize on the current race to the White House. Batman-based stories tend to be a hotbed for political campaigns. If you’ll recall, way back when Warner Bros. was promoting The Dark Knight, there were a series of “I Believe in Harvey Dent†posters, and now it looks like Gotham is following suit on a similar campaign.
Instead of Harvey Dent, however, we now have Oswald Cobblepot (a.k.a. The Penguin) running for mayor of Gotham.
Check out the poster and teaser below!
Of course, Cobblepot himself is no innocent. Sure, he may have fallen victim to the whims of Gotham’s previous mayor, but we’re not sure the man who orders to rocket launcher murder is the kind who should be leading a city, but what do I know? While we’d all love things to get better in Gotham, the premise of this show hinges on the fact that things will only get worse and worse until they require the actions of one Batman.
As such, the election of Penguin and continued corruption of the government seem like an inevitability. We’ll just have to continue watching and see how it all goes down.
Gotham airs Mondays at 8/7c on Fox.
