Disney does truly go by heat when picking the talent for their films, and in the musical realm, names attached to The Greatest Showman are pretty solid. In addition to being generally well received by critics, the Hugh Jackman-led musical has quietly made nearly $400M worldwide off its $84M budget.

Well, the songwriters for that film have moved on to another pretty big project. Namely, Disney’s Aladdin. Speaking with Variety on the red carpet of last night’s Oscars, songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul discussed the film. Here’s what Pasek had to say:
“We’re really thrilled that we got to collaborate with one of our heroes, Alan Menken, and we collaborated with him and wrote the lyrics for two new songs for Aladdin that’s coming out next year. Just being in the studio with him and getting to suck him dry for all the stories he would tell us and pick his brain about it. We probably delayed work for several weeks just trying to be like, ‘tell us about Ariel, tell us about Ursula.’ We freaked out, so we’re really excited for that, and really thrilled to be a part of the Disney family, too.”
Production has already wrapped for the live-action adaptation, so the work done on that was well in advance of The Greatest Showman‘s release, but it goes to show how in-demand the pair has been since their work on the Oscar-winning La La Land.
