Guardians Of The Galaxy 3 Will Likely Hit Theaters In 2020

Right now, Marvel is basking in the glory of their successes so far this year. So far, two movies have hit theaters — Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Spider-Man: Homecoming — and both have done incredibly well, both in terms of their quality and box office performance.

Though while audiences may still be re-enjoying Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in its home release right now, James Gunn has his eyes set on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which currently doesn’t have an official release date. In fact, the film that has the latest official release date is Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 at July 5, 2019.

Considering the first Spider-Man: Homecoming hit theaters a little after Guardians 2, could we expect Guardians 3 to hit around that same time frame? That would be the natural deduction, but given how many franchises the Marvel Cinematic Universe has to Juggle, there’s no way to be sure when a certain film of each respective franchise will hit.

But now, we’re a little bit closer to determining the release date of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. In the comments of a recent Facebook post, Gunn revealed that the next film would hit:

“In a little under three years.”

So exactly three years would be around September of 2020, and if we’re to believe his statements, we may be looking at an earlier summer release. So let’s take a look at the 2020 slate for the studio. Right now, Marvel has three untitled films set for 2020:

  • May 1, 2020
  • August 7, 2020
  • November 6, 2020

We can obviously nix the November date, as that’s more than three years away. This leaves the May and August release dates. Now this part is pure conjecture, but if it were the May date, I would think Gunn would be more inclined to say “around two and a half years,” as opposed to “under three years.”

As such, I think Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is most likely set to hit on August 7, 2020. This is obviously a great month for the film, since the first one also hit back in August 1 of 2014, and that spelled big success for the franchise.
