Guardians Of The Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT Possibly Teasing Future Characters

Disneyland is set to open a brand new attraction this weekend called Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! This was formally the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror but was re-themed for obvious reasons. It will feature the characters from the film including Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Groot and Rocket. One other interesting character it will feature will be Teneleer Tivan otherwise known as The Collector and as you queue up to get on the ride you get the opportunity to check out some of the items from his collection.

IGN got a first look at the ride and got to see some pretty interesting items while in line. While there are some recognizable items on display like an Ultron drone from Avengers: Age of Ultron, a Nova Corps uniform from Guardians of the Galaxy and a Terrigen crystal from Agents of SHIELD, there are some items on display that we haven’t seen before in the MCU. IGN was told by a Disney/Marvel representative that they should look for these items as some of them are hints of characters to come, while others are just nods to the comic books, either way its gets conversations started.

The first item that stood out was Beta Ray Bill’s hammer. What makes this item interesting is that it’s simply labeled as an “Asgardian War Hammer” but the description that accompanies it reads, “Originated in the dwarves forge on Nidavellir, this finely crafted object is made of the powerful stone, Uru.” This description pretty much confirms that this hammer is Stormbreaker. Beta Ray Bill first appeared in Marvel Comics in Thor #337 in November of 1983. He is the first alien to be worthy of lifting Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir. Due to this Odin rewards Beta Ray Bill with the Stormbreaker.

A couple of other pieces stood out were just labeled as “Mysterious Artifacts”. The accompanying description reads, “These mysterious artifacts were found at the bottom of the Terran ocean. Very little is known of the civilization the created them.”. The most obvious explanation for these items is a nod to Marvel’s Atlantis, home of Namor, the Sub-Mariner. We have heard rumors again and again of Namor making a leap into the big screen, but nothing has been confirmed to this date.

If you click on the link you can go to the article to see photos of the items and give your own opinion. This is a great marketing strategy for Disney/Marvel to get people talking about characters not currently in films. This way they can get a feel about how fans feel about certain characters that they may want to add to future films. What do you guys think of these items? Any interest in these two characters?
