Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2. Ego, The Living Planet’s Powers

Look friends, I don’t mean to beat you over the head with Guardian of the Galaxy news today, but this quote from director James Gunn explains quite a bit. First, If you have not watched the new trailer, check it out below, and you may not notice but there is actually a lot of images of Ego in his planet form. So how can he pop out as the iron-jawed Kurt Russell when ever he wants? Gunn gives an explanation in an interview earlier today.

“Ego is a living planet who is able to manifest himself in different ways he’s been alone for millions of years and he’s learned how to control the molecules around him in such a way as to create avatars of themselves, such as Kurt Russell. I think Ego was a very lonely character out there by himself and went off in search of love and perhaps found it in Quill’s mother.”

This tells me a few items of interest, and makes me ponder even more questions.

So it seems that he can manifest himself into human form, down to the exact molecue, which would include — how can I word this — the ability to create children. Ego gets bored and travels to earth only to find Peter Quill’s mother, and falls in love to give us the anti-hero (turned hero) we all love and adore. On a side note, it would be tragic if this caused his mother to get cancer and that is what the ending of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 turns out to be, with Star-Lord going bat**** crazy on Ego.

But, why not come in as someone like, and keep in mind this was the 70’s, Burt Reynolds, John Travolta, or Andy Gibb? Or better yet, why not Cheryl Tiegs, Angie Dickinson, or Catherine Bach and then raise the child himself? This is an important question that must be address by Mr. Gunn, and I expect answers! *crickets*

In all seriousness. if Ego can form himself into a humanoid form, imagine what else he could turn into. I have been suspectig for awhile that he may be the actual villain of the movie, but what if he can simply just form himself into a huge Celestial and smack down Ayesha and her troops with a single blow? Or even better, what if he IS a Celestial in hiding?

So many questions, so many teasers, so many theories!

What are your theories behind Ego? Let’s hear them!
