Hans Zimmer must be getting his retirement advice from Michael Jordan, Hayao Miyazaki, and John Wick, because he’s doing a bad job at it. Just a couple short years ago while speaking to BBC‘s HARDtalk, Zimmer pretty much said he was getting out of the superhero film game.
“I did Batman Begins with Chris [Nolan] 12 years ago, so The Dark Knight Trilogy might be three movies to you, to me it was 11 years of my life.”
Back in 2016, when this news first came out, I purchased a bottle of Trader Joe’s two-buck chuck and poured it out in its entirety on my front lawn, in commemoration of the work Zimmer has done for the genre. But now, it looks like that’s two dollars I’ll never be getting back because according to Hans-Zimmer.com, the composer is returning to the superhero game for Wonder Woman 1984.

I suppose it’s fitting since he did create her theme song in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and I can’t help but wonder if there’s a particular reason why he’s coming back. Is there something in the story he’d really like to tackle or did Warner Bros. make him an offer he couldn’t refuse? Was there anything wrong with the job that Wonder Woman composer Rupert Gregson-Williams did? These are the questions we may never know the answers to…
