Some news, which I felt hardly a surprise has come out that Dave Filoni is the co-writer of The Mandalorian and Grogu with Jon Favreau. I know this was never stated officially anywhere, but was I the only one who simply assumed this would be the case? After all whilst Favreau was the main creator, Filoni did co-write The Mandalorian show with him and this is a continuation.
However, it was stated in a recent article from THR that Filoni is indeed the co-writer of The Mandalorian and Grogu. I think what’s most interesting about this story is how some Star Wars fans have reacted to this news. Some treating this as a bad sign after what we witnessed in Ahsoka. Yet at the same time, I’m thinking, wasn’t Season 3 of Mando the one Filoni was involved least with, and was also the worst of the three?
All we can hope for with this one is a movie that’s as good as Mando Season 1 and 2. I don’t actually think this was ever intended as a movie, but Lucasfilm needs some box office money. All Favreau (also directing) and Filoni can do here is make the best damn movie they can. The assignment is simple, but not easy. Make a compelling movie with these two popular characters and what happens next.

I also would not be surprised at all to find Thrawn involved as the main villain of the film. After all we see in the brief footage shown at D23 that the Empire are antagonists, somehow. That means The Mandalorian and Grogu is also a follow up to Ahsoka from Filoni. Therefore, it’s likely the events of the movie will have an impact on Ahsoka Season 2, already greenlit.
As I said, I’m neither surprised by this news, nor am I concerned about it. Ultimately these two have produced some good Star Wars and some not so good Star Wars stories thus far. I just hope this is one of the good ones. Though, I do still think it’s gonna feel like a TV movie to fans.
What do you think of the news Dave Filoni is co-writer on The Mandalorian and Grogu? Are you surprised or concerned about this piece of news? Thoughts below as always.
