Today we are sharing a The Batman 2 script and filming update from the movies co-writer Mattson Tomlin. Speaking with Screen Rant Tomlin says things are gearing up and filming is set to begin next year. He was also full of praise for director and co-writer Matt Reeves and says he cant wait for this movie to be made.
“It’s shooting next year. We’re gearing up, and I will say that the bar just couldn’t be higher. It’s the sequel to the first one. But also, Matt [Reeves] is like no other. In the five years now that I’ve been working with him as closely as I have, I’ve tried to absorb as much as humanly possible from him, and I’m so grateful for the time that I get to spend with him, because he is a true artist who is operating in a world where sometimes art doesn’t get to flourish, and he’s trying to make something that really matters. So to be able to just be on the ride and be part of that process, it’s pretty unbelievable, pretty tremendous. I’m psyched for the movie.”

Of course it has been quite some time since The Batman was in theaters. Several factors have caused delays including writer and actor strikes. However, it is also true that Reeves seems to like getting his script right before he begins shooting. The Batman also took quite some time after being announced to the start of filming. If that results in a better movie, then I’d rather the wait every time. However, I guess it’s not conducive to making many sequels.
We also have Penguin, which Reeves has been involved with. That hits HBO later this year as a sequel series to The Batman.
My guess, is that if The Batman 2 is not the end of the franchise, then the third one will be. By then DC Studios are also going to have their own Batman running about in the DCU. I therefore have no issue with Reeves taking his time and getting it right. He needs to get these right to keep getting the chance to do another.
