The beloved actor that we have known for piloting one of the most famous ships in sci-fi is going to be making his way to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. According to Deadline, Harrison Ford has been confirmed to replace the late William Hurt as General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross in the MCU.
Ford will be making his first appearance as Ross in the upcoming feature film, Captain American: New World Order in 2024. The confirmation of his role comes after it had been rumored for about a month that Marvel Studios wanted the Star Wars veteran for the role. He’ll star opposite Anthony Mackie, with Shira Haas, Tim Blake Nelson, and Carl Lumbly.
Currently, the plot for the next Captain America film, starring Sam Wilson as Captain America, is being kept under wraps. Julius Onah directs the film.
General Ross is no stranger to audiences. Having been featured in films starting with 2008’s The Incredible Hulk through Black Widow with Hurt playing the role. In comics, the character was first introduced to Marvel Comics in 1962. He is known for leading the team of anti-heroes known as the Thunderbolts. This a group that was revealed in September at D23 that included Ghost, Yelena Belova, Taskmaster, Red Guardian, the Winter Solider, U.S. Agent, and their assumed leader Countessa Valentina.

It is also important to note that General Ross in Marvel Comics becomes the character known as Red Hulk. He has worked with the military. As well as just a typical rage-filled Hulk that has it out for Bruce Banner. Details on how many appearances General Ross will have are unknown. It’s also unknown if the bosses at Marvel Studios even want him to eventually transform. Given the liberties they sometimes take with comic book cannon, you never know.
