UPDATED: Variety has quietly updated their article so that Jones says “next year” instead of “next week.” So it looks like 2020 is when we can expect the film to get in front of cameras.
ORIGINAL STORY:
Ever Since Disney purchased Lucasfilm we have been wondering if and when we would be seeing a new Indiana Jones film. With Ford pushing into his late 70’s (Ford and my father share the same birthdate) fans started to wonder if he was just getting too old to possibly play an action hero like Jones again.
There was rumor of Ford passing the torch onto a younger version of the character somehow, but Ford himself recently dismissed this and said he will be the only actor who plays Jones and that Jones dies with him. But now surprisingly, Ford has told Variety in a recent interview about Disneyland’s Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge, that he expects to begin filming Indiana Jones 5 as early as next week. Here is the quote Ford gave with regards to Indy 5.
“Should be starting to shoot sometime next week. I’m looking forward to it, things are coming along well.”
This is much sooner than I think anyone expected and as yet we have absolutely no clue where this sequel will take Indy, or what time period it will be set in? Given Ford’s age, it could be as late as the 70’s but that seems unlikely. As you’d imagine Steven Spielberg is directing the movie and as far as we know, he is shooting a script by David Koepp, although we heard recently that Jonathan Kasdan (Solo) had been brought in to touch it up.

Has Kasdan completely rewritten the original script from Koepp, who knows at this point? I had my worries about Koepp writing Indy 5, because he wrote the Indiana Jones movie that we don’t talk about. I have heard rumor of this fourth Indy movie called Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, but for some reason my mind seems to tell me it doesn’t really exist, go figure?
