I remember sitting through near the end of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull in that final scene where Indy’s son almost picked up his hat. Like many other people in the theater, I was thinking, “No, no, no, no!” No way anyone else out there could take on the role of everyone’s favorite whip-toting doctor.
But we live in an era where pretty much any character out there is bound to outlive the actor. Almost no one out there is sacred. We saw that in last year’s Solo: A Star Wars Story, which saw Harrison Ford replaced by Alden Ehrenreich as everyone’s favorite smuggler. But what about Indiana Jones? For real? Harrison Ford isn’t getting any younger, but when asked about who he’d want him to take his place on the Today Show, Ford answered:
“Nobody else is gonna be Indiana Jones! Don’t you get it? I’m Indiana Jones. When I’m gone, he’s gone. It’s easy…This is a hell of a way to tell Chris Pine this. I’m sorry, man.”
Man, I love Harrison Ford. pic.twitter.com/JQ6HY3lyk3

So if you were one of those fans who’d hoped that Chris Pine would be taking over the role…sorry. So long as it’s up to Ford (though let’s be real, it probably isn’t), we won’t be seeing another Dr. Jones but him.
How do you feel about Ford’s comments? Are you happy the purity of the character will be retained or are you sad we won’t get a continuation of the icon once Ford passes? Let us know your thoughts down below!
