Has Indy 5 cast its villain? Maybe it’s a little too obvious why I am thinking that, as actor Thomas Kretschmann has been cast in Indiana Jones 5. The Wrap has revealed the casting but cannot put a role to Krestchmann for now. Fans are automatically thinking villain because the actor is German. You readers may be most familiar with Kretschmann from his role as Baron Von Strucker in Avengers: Age of Ultron. That was a villainous role and we know that Indiana Jones hates those Nazis.
However, unlike Raiders and Last Crusade, Indiana Jones 5 is not set during the Nazi regime. That pretty much leaves Kretschmann’s role up in the air. Could he be a Nazi? Sure, I guess there were still some Nazi’s in the 60’s. However, Kretschmann could be playing anyone, and it might be kinda cool to have a German on the good side this time? The villain could also be Mads Mikkelsen who was previously announced for Indy 5. Mikkelsen also lends himself very easily to villainous roles and has played a villain and almost every big franchise outside of Star Wars where he was a good guy.

Again though, this is all pure guesswork. Here are the facts. There is an Indiana Jones 5 coming soon with James Mangold directing. So far in addition to Ford, Phoebe Waller-Bridge , Mads Mikkelsen, and Kretschmann have been cast in undisclosed roles. Anything else is pure speculation at this point in time. Whilst no one can ever accuse me of not enjoying a good bit of speculation, we simply don’t know enough yet to try. Therefore in answer to the question posed in the title, has Indy 5 cast its villain? I think the answer is probably yes, however whether it’s Mikkelsen or Kretschmann, or both, I have no idea? My bet is that it’s not Waller-Bridge, but again, who knows?
What do you think of the news that Thomas Kretschmann has joined Indiana Jones 5? As always, leave any thoughts below.
