Hasbro and Lionsgate to Develop Monopoly For the Big Screen | CinemaCon 2024

Hasbro looks to continue bringing its games and toys onto the big screen, with its next film being Monopoly. With Lionsgate, they announced a deal with LuckyChap, a production company headed by Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley, and Josey McNamara to produce the film. Hasbro Entertainment will also produce.

Most recently, LuckyChap produced the Academy Award-winning film Barbie, which earned over $1.4 billion worldwide at the box office. The company also produced Saltburn and the upcoming My Old Ass.

“I could not imagine a better production team for this beloved and iconic brand than LuckyChap,” said Adam Fogelson, chairman of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group. “They are exceptional producers who choose their projects with great thought and care, and join Monopoly with a clear point of view. We are tremendously excited to be working with the entire LuckyChap team on what we all believe can be their next blockbuster.”

Monopoly is the world’s most popular board game. It is available in more than 100 countries worldwide and has 99 percent global awareness. The game has sold nearly half a billion copies since its origination in 1935.

“As one of the most iconic games in the world, Monopoly provides an incredible platform for storytelling opportunities. We are thrilled to have the unique vision of LuckyChap and Lionsgate alongside us to bring this historic piece of popular culture to the big screen,” stated Zev Foreman, head of film for Hasbro Entertainment.

No release date has been announced at this time.

But, the big question is who is gonna play the Monopoly guy?
