Disney’s new streaming series, Disney+ is being so generous with their TV series handouts that you may as well call them Oprah Winfrey. We already know for sure we’re getting a Loki series as well as a Vision and Scarlet Witch series, and that’s not even to mention rumors of a Falcon and Bucky series. Now, there’s a new report that another second-tier character will be getting their own series in the form of Hawkeye.
The series will reportedly star Jeremy Renner, reprising his role as the titular archer. The show will apparently cover his passing on the mantle of Hawkeye to Kate Bishop, who comic book readers will recognize from the source material. Kate, in the comics, goes on to join the group the Young Avengers — which a rumored direction for future Avengers movies down the line (or New Avengers, or variations on the idea that help differentiate it from what we see in the franchise now).

Sadly, it does sound like, if we have a story seeing Barton passing the torch to Kate Bishop, that it’s pretty much confirming his survival in Avengers: Endgame. This is absolutely hilarious to me, as some deeply cynical fans have been predicting the character’s death ever since he underwhelmed audiences in the first Avengers movie.
That being said, I do think he’s never given enough credit in the movies. Following his role in Avengers: Age of Ultron, I really liked his role as the cantankerous uncle to Scarlet Witch in Captain America: Civil War worked well, and I can’t wait to see how his character continues to grow in Avengers: Endgame.
