A piece of news and then some rumors around it today, as Hayley Atwell returns to the MCU in Avengers: Doomsday, but what’s her role? Let’s start with the news per Deadline that alongside on-screen hubby Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell will return to the MCU for Avengers: Doomsday. The trade had already revealed Evans was returning for the film, as you can see in the related section below.

Here is what the Deadline had to say,

‘With Chris Evans likely reprising his Steve Rogers role in Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday, it looks like his former partner in crime will be joining him in the new Marvel movie. Sources tell Deadline that Hayley Atwell is expected to reprise her Agent Carter role in the film, which Anthony and Joe Russo are returning to direct and Marvel president Kevin Feige on board to produce.’

It’s notable that Deadline says Agent Carter and not Captain Carter. I would not have been surprised to see Carter back in her Multiversal variant.

However, many fans feel that Steve going back to be with Peggy will be an issue that has ramifications. Ramifications felt in Doomsday/Secret Wars. Now one leaker has said what they are hearing about the return of Evans and Atwell, Alex P from TCC. Check it out.

‘One of the rumors I had heard for these films was that a lot of actors might be pulling double duty when it comes to the characters they portray. Evans could be a prime example of that because he could be playing a number of characters in these upcoming films. One of those will definitely be the Steve Rogers from the end of Endgame, who went on to live happily ever after with Peggy, who was recently confirmed to also be coming back for Doomsday. The confirmation that she’ll be Agent Carter rather than Captain Carter indicates we’ll be heading back to that timeline. I’ve also heard that Evans could be portraying another character in the movie that stands alongside RDJs Doctor Doom.’

I guess we shall have to see how this plays out? Alex has a good hit rate. Though, it is early in the process and details could change once filming gets underway. However, what is clear is that both Evans and Atwell are back for Doomsday?
