HBO Looking To Cast Daemon Targaryen In House Of The Dragon | LRM’s Barside Buzz

Are HBO looking to cast Daemon Targaryen in House of the Dragon? It’s been a while since I’ve heard much news about Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon. The show has the green light from HBO to be fully developed. There has been a few casting calls already for other prominent roles. However, according to most fans of George Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire, the most important role to get right is Daemon Targaryen.

I’ve read a lot of fans saying that if they don’t get Daemon right, the rest of the show isn’t going to work. House of the Dragon will deal with a period in Westeros past commonly referred to as the Dance of Dragons. Essentially that story follows a Targaryen Civil War for the Iron Throne. Both sides with supporters, both sides with claims, and both sides with dragons. I’m no expert on Daemon Targaryen, knonw as the Rogue Prince. I do know the character is apparently very complicated and deals in shades of grey as opposed to black and white. Therefore, he can do both heroic acts, and still be self-serving and morally dubious.

This news comes from the folks over at The Illuminerdi. The outlet seems to be getting a lot of early casting calls right now. They say HBO is actively looking to cast Daemon in what would be one of the shows lead roles. Here is the description the outlet provided.

PRINCE DAEMON TARGARYEN (Male, 40-50) – The younger brother to King Viserys, Daemon wasn’t born with “naked ambition” for the throne despite being in line for it. He’s less methodical and more impetuous. Not to mention easily bored…stumbling from one distraction to the next with the subconscious yet singular obsession with earning the love and acceptance of his brother the king. Most of Daemon’s joy is found at sword-point. But even as the most experienced warrior of his time, he vacillates between vile and heroic, making him the true rogue of the series.

We may have some tine to wait before we get anything official about House of the Dragon. Longer still until we see it potentially hitting HBO, currently penciled for 2022.

The question is, will House of the Dragon bring back that Game of Thrones crowd? Will the audience be as willing to go back to Westeros when Game of Thrones ended so poorly? Who would you cast as Daemon Targaryen in House of the Dragon? Leave your thoughts below in the usual spot.
