In their new Coming In 2020 promo commercial, HBO gave their viewers a sneak peak at what the network will have to offer them in the coming year. One of those properties is the upcoming fantasy-horror series Lovecraft Country, executive produced by Jordan Peele and J.J. Abrams. The series was created by Peele and Misha Green (Underground), with Green writing all eight episodes of the series. The series is based on the novel by Matt Ruff.
The series stars Jonathan Majors (White Boy Rick, Hostiles), June Smollett-Bell (Birds Of Prey: And The Fantabulous Emancipation Of One Harley Quinn, Underground), and Courtney B. Vance (American Crime Story: The People Vs OJ Simpson, Office Christmas Party). The synopsis of the series is described as follows:
Lovecraft Country follows Atticus Black (Majors), his friend Letitia (Smollett-Bell), and his uncle George (Vance) as they embark on a cross-country journey through 1950s Jim Crow America in search of Atticus’ father.

Back in 2017, when it was first announced, Green shared her excitement regarding the project. “When I first read Lovecraft Country I knew it had the potential to be unlike anything else on television,” She said. “Jordan, J.J., Bad Robot, Warner Bros, and HBO are all in the business of pushing the limits when it comes to storytelling, and I am beyond thrilled to be working with them on this project.”
A premiere date has yet to be announced for the series, but with Peele, Green, and Abrams attached to it–and 2020 just around the corner–the hype for the series will only increase as the days tick by.
