Heath Ledger Planned On Playing The Joker Again After The Dark Knight

Without a doubt, actor Heath Ledger made a huge splash when his interpretation of the beloved Joker character exploded onto the screen. Between his unique laugh and hard-to-pin-down motivations, he was the perfect kind of nightmare for a modern audience.

In the time since his death, fans have always contemplated whether or not we would’ve seen more of his Joker after The Dark Knight. After all, this character did survive by the closing credits, and from what we heard, director Christopher Nolan did have plans to bring him back in a follow-up film, whenever that may have happened.

But after the intense experience with the Clown Prince of Crime, would Ledger himself have returned? In an interview with news.com.au last year (dug up by Batman-News), Ledger’s sister Kate shared the following

“I spoke to him the night before (he died) and we were laughing and joking. He was so proud of what he had done in Batman. And I know he had plans for another Batman. He loved working with Chris Nolan and Christian Bale and Gary Oldman. He just had the best time ever doing that film. When he came home at Christmas he couldn’t wait to tell us all about it and he was doing the voice and laughing, showing me all the rushes. We had a great time.”

Of course, there’s no knowing whether or not he would have been able to recapture lightning in a bottle once again in the sequel, but, like many fans, I would have adored seeing that take on the character at least once more. Given how iconic it was, seeing him play a part in the final chapter of the Dark Knight Trilogy would have created a more fulfilling experience.

What do you think? Would you have liked to see more of Ledger’s Joker, or is it one of those things that, once over-exploited, would have gotten old? Let us know down below!
