For the past few weeks, we have seen a number of recognizable stars in solidarity with the current SAG-AFTRA strike that has disrupted Hollywood. But it would seem that not all stars are in favor of the strike.

Stephen Amell, currently starring on “Heels” on Starz and well known for his portrayal of Oliver Queen on The CW’s “Arrow”, spoke out against the ongoing strike while appearing at GalaxyCon in North Carolina over the weekend.

In a video recorded by a fan, Amell is asked about the strike and the actor chose to express his personal opinion.

 “I support my union, I do, and I stand with them,” Amell said. “I do not support striking. I don’t.”

“I think that it is a reductive negotiating tactic, and I find the entire thing incredibly frustrating,” Amell continued. “And I think that the thinking as it pertains to shows like the show that I’m on that premiered last night, I think it’s myopic.”

It’s important to note that he repeated his support for his union in the last moments of the clip and that the rest of his remarks were not captured on video. Still, it was enough to ignite the rage of social media who have been shaming him for his honest answer about the situation.

The Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA), the union that represents all of the actors in movies and TV was not able to agree on a contract before the deadline with the Alliance of Motion Pictures and Television Producers (AMPTP) and have been on strike since. It has affected productions, promotions, and conventions like San Diego Comic-Con.

In part, it would seem that Amell was frustrated with not being able to promote his new show “Heels” which just started its second season.

Another important thing to note is that it would also seem that GalaxyCon seems to fall within the guidelines of union members participating in a panel or Q&A. Although it’s unclear if making those specific remarks about the strike or those that mention “Heels” could be considered a violation.
