Looks like the series reboot of the Vacation series is inching towards production. The film, which would continue the story of the Griswold family’s misadventures while on vacation, will star Ed Helms as a grown-up Rusty. It will also star Christina Applegate as his wife, and will be featuring original series stars- Clark & Ellen, themselves- Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo in cameo appearances. The Horrible Bosses duo of John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein will be making their directorial debut with the film. But we’ve known all that for quite some time. We also know that the production has been delayed.
But now, in anticipation of a hopeful September start time for filming, we’ve got some new casting news courtesy of THR. The outlet is reporting that Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and Bosses star Charlie Day have signed on for roles in the movie.
Hemsworth will play Stone Crandall, an anchorman that’s on-the-rise who’s married to Rusty’s sister. The report states that Hemsworth has been wanting to do a comedy for some time, so he’s really going to sink his teeth into this one.
Day’s role will be more of a cameo. Something akin to John Candy’s appearance at the end of the first Vacation film. The It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia star will play a river-rafting guide.
The Griswold clan was created by John Hughes, who loosely based the original film on his own family vacations growing up. Think this new team and cast will be able to capture the magic of the first films in the series?
