Henry Cavill is certainly no stranger to iconic globally famous roles after playing Superman, there are few roles as old or as famous as the Man of Steel. One of the few roles which could even come close is that of British secret agent James Bond aka 007.

We already know that the role is currently still occupied as Daniel Craig will once again reprise the role for the as yet untitled Bond 25 directed by Danny Boyle (Trainspotting). But it is also highly likely that this will be Craig’s final outing as 007, so what happens after that? If there’s one certainty in cinema, it’s that there will be more James Bond films and the role will be recast.

Currently promoting Mission Impossible: Fallout where Cavill plays a US secret agent in the CIA, he spoke with Yahoo Movies UK who dropped in a question about James Bond. Here is what Cavill said.

“Yes, a very casual James Bond reference. I would love to do it of course. I think Bond would be a really fun role. It’s British, it’s cool. I think that now that I have my Mission: Impossible badge we can do real stunts and really amp it up as well. Not to say they weren’t doing real stunts I’m just saying it would be fun for me to actually take what I’ve learnt on this and carry it through to a movie like Bond. I’d love to play a Brit. I don’t get to play a Brit very often. So yes, I would love the opportunity and if they were to ask I would say “yes.””

I must admit that I never even considered Cavill as a choice for the next Bond, to me it seems, almost too obvious. I’m not sure if Cavill has anything unique enough to make that character his own. It would almost feel like the casting of George Lazenby to replace Sean Connery, in which Lazenby looked like a James Bond, but simply lacked some charisma and menace. Perhaps I am doing Cavill an injustice as I have not yet seen Mission Impossible: Fallout and Superman is such a different role to that of James Bond?

You decide for yourself, this could be Cavill just putting his name in the hat for ‘one day’, however, the debate about who should be the next Bond has another player on the table.
