Hope you’re ready for the reboot of Highlander, because it sounds like it’s coming, whether you like it or not. This is a franchise Lionsgate has been working to bring back to the big screen for some time, and last we heard, John Wick director Chad Stahelski was on board to helm the project.

But of course, like many projects in Hollywood, this one has been in the making for a long time, and even with a director attached, there’s a possibility that nothing would come of it. It sounds like that’s becoming less and less likely.

According to Deadline, Lionsgate recently had a script for the film delivered by Colony writer Ryan Condal, and they are apparently very pleased with what they’ve been given. As such, it looks like they’re moving forward with it, with pre-production set to start later this year. This will come following Stahelski’s finishing up of John Wick: Chapter 3, which stars Keanu Reeves.

Head of Lionsgate’s Motion Picture Group had the following to say to the outlet:

“We’ve finally got a screenplay we’re happy with. We have set up the story so it has sequel potential.”

And speaking of that, it sounds like Stahelski has plans to do a trilogy of films, not unlike what he did with John Wick. While this is all looking good, there is always the possibility that Stahelski comes in with plans to change some things up, but as it stands, Highlander stands a very good chance of hitting in 2019.
