Deadline reports that His Dark Materials Season 3 casts Gallivespians Roke and Salmakia. Sian Clifford (Fleabag) has been cast as Lady Salmakia, and Sherlock actor Jonathan Aris as Commander Roke. Both Roke and Salmakia make their debuts in the third book in the His Dark Materials trilogy, The Amber Spyglass and it’s this book being adapted for His Dark Materials Season 3.
Gallivespians are tiny little people from another Universe who have thrown their lot in with Lord Asriel and the army he is gathering. Given their size, Gallivespians are not accounted great warriors, but masterful spies. Both Commander Roke and Lady Salmakia who works for him perform important tasks in the narrative of the story. Sadly the life expectancy of Gallivespians is far, far shorter than Humans. Gallivespians also breed and rear dragonflies which they then use as their steeds which gives them the ability to fly around easily and get to places others cannot.
The Gallivespians side with Lord Asriel against the Authority, against the Church/Magisterium because in their own Universe they are subject to much cruelty from the ruling Humans. However I won’t get into any more details here to avoid Season 3 spoilers.

Sian Clifford is probably most famous for appearing in Fleabag, and Aris for Sherlock. Though the pair have appeared in a number of British TV shows over the years. Honestly, the casting is great as always for this show, so I cannot wait to see Season 3 played out. This final season will undoubtedly have a much wider scope and a larger budget considering what needs to go down. Things honestly just get completely mental in that third book and it’s awesome.
