This has been an interesting couple weeks regarding the newest Spider-Man movie. It was first reported that Jamie Foxx would be reprising his role as Electro, then Benedict Cumberbatch would be also in the movie as Doctor Strange. But the biggest news of all was that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield would also be joining the movie as well as their versions of Spider-Man. This news was first reported by Andy Signore on Popcorned Planet. It has taken the internet by storm as fans of the Marvel franchise are praying for this news to be true.
As social media took this news and put it into hyperdrive it was only a matter of time before bigger outlets started to look into it. ET Canada reached out to Sony Pictures, in light of the rumours that the former Spider-Men are in talks to join the latest Spider-Man movie.
“Those rumoured castings are not confirmed,” a rep for the studio says. Fans will note the statement does not deny the casting buzz.

That quote can be taken so many ways. It is very similar to when Rosario Dawson was asked if she was casted as Ahsoka Tano saying it wasn’t “confirmed yet”. Most fans see this response as only a matter of time before the announcement is made. Filming for Spider-Man 3 has reportedly started filming this week in New York. I doubt we will see either Tobey or Andrew on set anytime soon. They will probably do their scenes at the Marvel Studios in Atlanta.
