The rumor mill continues to churn, and the latest tidbit to get spat out of machine has to do with Todd McFarlane’s upcoming low-budget Spawn reboot, which features Jamie Foxx in the lead role. One big actor who is said to be circling the picture is Marvel Cinematic Universe star Jeremy Renner, who most fans know as Hawkeye (aka Clint Barton).
Sadly, the outlet can’t confirm whether or not Renner has actually signed onto the project just yet, but they at least have one indication as to who he is being considered for: Twitch Williams. They describe the character in the film as an honest detective who works with Spawn to help the anti-hero get his vengeance for the murder of his young daughter. In effect, he’s the Jim Gordon of the flick.

Those hoping to see Renner take on a Hawkeye standalone film will likely never see that dream realized (though his role in Avengers 4 is likely to be a big one), but him taking on a lead comic book movie role in Spawn could be just what the doctor ordered, even if it isn’t on the mammoth scale of your average Marvel Studios blockbuster.
Spawn is set to have a minimal $10 million-esque budget, and it comes courtesy of Blumhouse, a studio that has capitalized on the philosophy of high concept, low-budget. It is one that has served them well, and has led to their current dominant position as a genre powerhouse.
