When so many casting leaks happen for these big franchise movies, one wonders how Julie Louis-Dreyfus was kept secret in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. Ok, not totally secretive, I know at least one insider knew about this appearance but didn’t reveal it very freely to try to protect the secret. However, let’s just say that for the vast majority of Marvel fans, the appearance of Julie Louis-Dreyfus as Val in Episode 5 was a surprise.
Now Louis-Dreyfus has revealed on social media, just how she was kept a secret working on set. Check it out.

As you can see Marvel went with the old actor in a hooded cloak routine they attempted on WandaVision. The only difference being that this time it worked. Evan Peters had to go through a similar routine on his way to set with WandaVision. However Peter’s involvement with WandaVision was known very early into the process. This in turn made adding other puzzle pieces together that bit easier.

Val however, was a character I don’t think anyone could have predicted, unlike Wanda’s dead brother Pietro. Of course, there was a twist with Pietro and one fans are still kinda trying to get their heads round. Whereas I did suspect a character like Val to appear somewhere in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. If you read one of my earliest predictions for the show it was that it would be a about Super Solider Serum and set up a possible Thunderbolts event. Still, me thinking there would be ‘Val like’ role in the show is very far from Julie Louis-Dreyfus showing up as a character from the comics we haven’t seen in the MCU yet.
In conclusion though, I do wonder why the need for such secrecy? If Louis-Dreyfus had been officially announced for a small role in the show, we still would have no idea as who, or where she’d show up. Then again, perhaps this was also due to the Black Widow factor? We know Louis-Dreyfus first appearance should have been in Black Widow before this appearance. Fans are now guessing that Val will recruit Florence Pugh in the same way she did John Walker.
