For as long as I can remember, comic book movies have been all about the Easter eggs and homages. In every Marvel movie, you can rest easy knowing that you’ll be seeing comics legend Stan Lee in some capacity, and Nolan’s DARK KNIGHT TRILOGY is full of little hints to the source material (including, but not limited to, the whole “Robin” reveal at the end of THE DARK KNIGHT RISES). It’s a genre of films embedded in the decades of history from the comics, and while for your average viewer it’s no big deal, us geeks can’t help but smile at the small details.

For the upcoming WONDER WOMAN flick from DC and Warner Bros, it’s been speculated for some time now that Lynda Carter, who some may remember played Wonder Woman in the 1970s TV series, would be making an appearance of sorts. And why not? While many of us are far too young to remember that series, there are plenty of fans who see Lynda Carter as their Wonder Woman, so it would be a nice nod to those who have fond memories of her.

Sadly, it doesn’t look like that will be panning out. According to the Washington Post, Lynda Carter will not be “so much as an extra” in the film, as they’ve confirmed through the actress’ publicist.

As sad as this is for some, it really shouldn’t come as a huge surprise. As early as 2010, Carter expressed just as much in an interview.

“If it really is something that is gratuitous I won’t do it; if it’s just for me to show up in it I wouldn’t do it. But if there is something written that they think would be appropriate then most definitely I’d consider it. I would love it.”

If the Washington Post’s claims are correct, it looks like the writers and director weren’t able to give Carter a pivotal enough role to warrant her involvement. While this won’t make or break the film in any capacity, I can imagine that some fans will be a bit disappointed, as embedding the history of the characters within the movies themselves is a fun tradition.
