Indiana Jones and Goonies Star Ke Huy Quan would reprise his iconic roles if given the chance. Quan who was not working as an actor for many years very recently appeared in Everything Everywhere All at Once. Of course Quan will always be most remembered by fans for his work in two iconic roles. Quan played Shorty in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom with Harrison Ford. He also played Data in The Goonies.
Quan left acting years ago because there were just very little opportunities for him as an Asian actor. However, when he spoke to ComicBook about his return to acting, Quan indicated he’d love to play both those roles again if the opportunity ever arose.
“Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and The Goonies changed my life, they changed the trajectory of my life. I still can’t believe, 38 years later, I still have people come up to me and tell me how their life has been impacted by those two movies. So I’m grateful to be a part of that,” Quan shared with ComicBook.com when asked if he was interested in reprising these roles. “And yes, over the years, I always dreamed of revisiting those characters. In fact, we tried for many years, making a Goonies 2. We’ve hired numerous writers with numerous drafts, but it just never came to be. And so, even my return to acting, it was once, to me, a very, very distant dream. [Everything Everywhere All at Once directors] the Daniels made that distant dream into a reality today and I’m so grateful to them. So, yeah, I’d love to.”

“I’m excited that we’re going to get Indiana Jones 5. I love Harrison Ford very much, and I can’t wait for him to don that fedora hat once again, and crack that whip another time. So yeah, I’m very happy.”
Sadly it seems like there was no room for Short Round in Indy 5, but who knows what the future holds. As for a Goonies 2, well, as the years roll on, it seems to be ever less likely that a sequel could happen. They’ve tried for years, but for whatever reason it hasn’t worked out. Perhaps a story about the Goonies all grown up just really isn’t that interesting a premise to make a movie with? If there is no quality script, then I’d rather they not bother. Too many movies these days are made with far too much nostalgia in the sauce. If there’s no great reason to do it, then just don’t do it.
