Is An X-Men Animated Series Revival Headed To Disney+? | LRM’s Barside Buzz

According to the Marvel Barside Buzz get ready for a Fantastic Four space birth, plus an X-Men movie is still planned after Secret Wars.

It’s been just over a year since Disney acquired 21st Century Fox. At the time, fans rejoiced. After all these years, we’d finally get to see the X-Men actually weave their way into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Yes, in an acquisition that spanned countless I.P.s, all many of us were worried about were the X-Men and the Fantastic Four. You can’t say our fandoms aren’t a dedicated bunch. And yet, all this time later, we have no real indication of either property heading to the MCU just yet.

Of course, this is barring all the various rumors. In an official capacity, all we have for the future of the MCU is a whole batch of films and TV shows for Phase 4. As of this writing, none of it seems to be leaning into the previously-Fox-owned properties.

But Will That Change Soon?

Well, hold your horses there. This new rumor comes from MCU Cosmic, and while it hints at Disney finally taking advantage of the X-Men in some capacity, it is not yet MCU-centric. According to the outlet, they’v heard that something related to the X-Men is in the works over on Disney+. Now, what does that mean?

The first idea they point to are the older Fox movies heading to the service. However, they quickly point out that HBO may have a deal through 2022 — so perhaps that’s not it. I don’t know about you guys, but that would be quite a letdown if that’s where the rumor went.

Fanboy Speculation

So, what are the most exciting ideas for this rumor?

I know many of us may be thinking something along the lines of an original TV show, and I personally think that would be the best option. As much as I love the idea of the X-Men in movies, I think the best stories could be told in an hourlong live-action TV format. Unlike the other MCU series, don’t feel the need to keep it restricted to a limited number of episodes. Shoot for 10 — there are enough characters to make this work.

As exciting as that is, there is another exciting possibility — an X-Men Animated Series revival. Revivals are all the rage these days, and Disney+ is all about that nostalgia life. Last year, THR reported that the creative team behind the show are pitching a continuation of the series. That would probably be the best way to keep X-Men fans sated while Marvel Studios finds a way to bring them into the MCU naturally.

So, What’s the Probability?

I know we’ve covered a lot of unlikely contenders here at LRM’s Barside Buzz, but this one I think has a pretty high probability. For starters, Jeremy Conrad tends to be pretty reliable when it comes to his scoops. Secondly, he’s not making super bold claims here. He’s being very realistic with what he’s presenting, and based on pre-existing news, it doesn’t seem too farfetched.

The X-Men Animated Series aspect may be pure speculation, but it does feel likely to me.
