Over the weekend, Henry Cavill and Dwayne Johnson got tongues wagging about the potential for an upcoming DC project that would find their super-powered beings crossing paths. Cavill, who plays Superman in the DC Extended Universe movies, posted a picture on his Instagram account where he’s sitting across from Johnson, who’s set to play Black Adam in a Shazam! movie that’s in development. Aside from the two gents sharing a drink in the photo, Cavill was sure to include some juicy DC-related hashtags in the tweet.

The actors, who are both represented by Johnson’s ex-wife Dany Garcia, are shown sitting together below in this Instagram post:

Merry Christmas a Happy New Year from Superman and Black Adam,” reads the caption that Cavill wrote for the pic. “Today we drink like gentleman and come together as friends. We’re excited for what the future brings…

Included are the following hashtags: #DangerousGentleman #DCWorldsWillCollide #Superman

This got lots of people talking, and for good reason. Johnson has been attached to DC for a few years now, and there’s been practically nothing solid to report about him in quite some time. At one point he was going to do a Lobo movie, then he started teasing that he may play Green Lantern John Stewart and stomp a mud hole in Superman’s ass, then- finally- he settled on playing Black Adam in a Shazam! movie, where he could’ve played the titular hero instead but opted to play the villain.

So Johnson has seemingly bounced around all over the place when it comes to his deal with DC. The last time we heard anything solid from Johnson’s DC camp was when Garcia revealed to the world that fellow client Cavill was going to get his own Superman sequel in the form of Man Of Steel 2 a few months ago. And now we’ve got this picture of her two prized clients meeting face-to-face on Christmas Eve, seemingly to discuss DC business.

Considering the fact that there’s been nothing solid to come out of the Shazam! movie, one has to wonder if they’re considering bringing Black Adam into Man of Steel 2. It’s the only real landing spot for Adam at this point, if a Shazam! movie is really as far off as it seems to be. He’s unlikely to pop up in either Justice League movie, since the first one has wrapped and there’s no way Johnson popping up as a main villain wouldn’t have leaked onto the internet by now. It’s also unlikely that he’ll be featured prominently in Justice League 2, since we know that film’s antagonist is going to be Darkseid.

This leaves only two possibilities: Johnson will show up as Black Adam in Man of Steel 2 or Cavill will show up as Superman inShazam!

Due to the reasons I’ve outlined above, I think the former is the most likely option. Hell, we’ve already seen that WB/DC likes to use Superman to launch new characters/movies, since his sequel got hijacked and turned into Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, so maybe they’ll use Man of Steel 2 to introduce and setup Shazam! by having Black Adam appear.

This is all just rumor and speculation at this point, but it’s clearly what Cavill and Johnson want us all to be pondering at this moment. So that’s exactly what we’re doing.

What do you think the deal is here?
