IT: Chapter Two – The Stakes Are Doubled Says Director Andy Muschietti

When it was first announced that they would be adapting Stephen King’s horror opus IT for the big screen, there were a lot of doubts in the air. Sure, the story had a solid backbone, but it wasn’t one that was really suited to a standard film adaptation. So director Andy Muschietti and co. did the smart thing and split the story in half, releasing the first chapter a couple of years back — to fan, critical, and box office acclaim.

Now, we’re approaching the release of IT: Chapter Two, and there are some real lofty expectations to live up to. The film will be present at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, and there will also be a con-exclusive issue that has two variant covers that connect vertically.

Regarding the film itself, it doesn’t sound like Muschietti is pulling any punches. “People who love the first one will love the second one,” Muschietti told EW. “The emotional journey is probably doubled. The stakes are doubled. Pennywise wants revenge.”

Doubling down on that, Pennywise himself Bill Skarsgard said, “He’s scarier and he’s angrier. There’s a couple of very brutal things in the film.”
