It May Not Be That Easy To Get Into Disney World When It Reopens

On yesterday’s 2nd quarter earnings call Disney CEO Bob Chapek announced that Shagnhai Disneyland theme park would be opening on May 11.  It would be the first of the Disney parks to start opening since the shutdown of all parks due to Covid-19.  There was no news on the plans when to reopen the other parks around the world.  Chapek said on the call that the company’s working hypothesis in making the decision to open its parks is based on the contribution to profits.  The assumption is there would be enough people that are willing to travel and go to the parks to whatever capacity Disney sets at the beginning of reopening.

Disney sent out a statement outlining the measures and procedures set for the reopening of the parks.  Nothing in the statement was overly dramatic and was pretty much in line with the outlines governments have put in place to reopen the economy.  Procedures like health screenings, increased sanitation, and training were in the statement for Disney parks reopening.

While there are plenty of Disney fans waiting for the parks to reopen, it may not be as simple to just show up the day they open.  Initial rules in place for the reopening will not allow for Park Hopping and you won’t be able to purchase tickets at the gate.  Just like dining reservations you will have to put in a reservation of which park you want to attend on what day and time. This will allow Park Security to control attendance at each park.

To control crowd density Annual Passholders will have restrictions added to their passes. Silver and Gold Annual Passholders will have more block out dates added to their list.  Platinum Passholders will be allowed to attend the parks anyday but they will have to make advanced reservations to which park they want to attend.  Park Hopping for Passholders will be suspended as well.

While there are plenty of Disney enthusiasts that will be at the parks reopening, there will be some guest upset about these changes.  If you don’t believe me just Google “Childless Millennial Rant”.  As a Passholder, I understand that there will be significant changes to my future experiences at Disney and there are going to be a lot of new rules that I will need to be educated on before I go.
