It’s Official: Watchmen Is Coming To HBO

I know what you’re thinking. “Wasn’t Watchmen already coming to HBO?” You may have been thinking about the pilot order, which pretty much them testing the waters to see if they could actually produce a show worth watching. Now, Deadline is reporting that Damon Lindelof’s new take on the Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ graphic novel has received a series order.

But if you’re one of the many folks out there who either loved or hated the film from Zack Snyder, fret not — this will not be a retread of that story, at least not from what we’ve heard about the film.

Like the original graphic novel, this will be set in an alternate timeline where superheroes are basically vigilantes — more often than not, everymen with silly costume gimmicks that border on the ridiculous. However, from what we can tell, this story takes place closer to the modern-day, decades after Ozymandias’ evil plan at the end of the graphic novel resulted in the death of millions of innocents.

What brave, new world does this give birth to? I’m actually pretty interested to see myself, and am happy that HBO picked this up, even if Lindelof’s name kinda scares me.
