Actor J.K. Simmons is contracted for Spider-Man sequels the actor confirms (yay). However, Simmons also doesn’t yet seem to know if he will be in Spider-Man 3, despite the contract (boo)? Read on for more details.
One of the biggest shock moments for fans in Spider-Man: Far From Home was when J.K. Simmons showed up in the post-credit scene. Simmons of course, famously played J.J. Jameson in the first three Spider-Man movies Sony made. It was great to see him show up again in Spider-Man: Far From Home, but will Simmons be playing Jameson in future Spider-Man movies? I’m afraid the most honest answer to this question is, probably, for now.
Simmons recently chatted with EW about all things Spidey and here is the exact transcript of the section where Simmons discusses his Spider-Man future.
“Asked if audiences can expect to see him in the next MCU Spider-Man film after his post-credits Far From Home appearance, the actor replies, “I don’t know if I would use the word expect.” He explains that he signed on to do sequels, but the studio isn’t obligated to use him in subsequent films. Still, he seems to bear no ill will about this: “It’s great to have the opportunity, as these things evolve, to be one of the holdovers from the previous version.””

In my interpretation of the above text, Simmons is saying he’s agreed to appear in any future Spider-Man movies. However, I also think what he is saying is that they haven’t yet told him he is in Spider-Man 3. With all the Coronavirus delays, who knows how far along the script for Spider-Man 3 even is? It’s therefore probably far too early to say whether there is a place for J. Jonah Jameson in Spider-Man 3? I hope there is, and I’m almost sure there will be, but it just sounds too early yet to tell?
If Simmons hasn’t actually been cast, or asked to be in Spider-Man 3 yet, then it’s not a certainty. However, I think there’s a good chance Simmons will be back or why bring him back as Jameson at all? Therefore, the answer I gave above seems most fitting. Simmons will probably be in Spider-Man 3, but until they officially ask him, only Marvel Studios have that answer. I would personally like to see Jameson heavily involved in the plot. In the comics Jameson helped create scorpion and I think Scorpion would be a great villain for Spider-Man 3. But that’s just my opinion and realistically we have no idea where Spider-Man 3 will go at this time.
