Jackman Responds To Deadpool Dissing ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’

One of the great aspects of promoting a film with a lead character like Deadpool is that you get to make plenty of self-referential comments, mock other films incessantly, and the kind of meta buzz it creates helps to sell the film while simultaneously being completely true to the character. I loved the momentin the Comic-Con trailer where Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) mocks DC’s GREEN LANTERN (which also starred Reynolds). Last week Reynolds, as Deadpool, took a shot at his other superhero flick, and the first chance he had to play Wilson: X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE

This week, WOLVERINE star Hugh Jackman responded:

During an appearance at Sundance, were Jackman’s feathers ruffled at all by Deadpool’s attack on the high-profile misfire that was ORIGINS? Not at all. “Love it. It’s just brilliant. I mean, I love Ryan, he’s a good mate of mine. He’s so fantastic,” he said. He did add, without hesitating, that he think Logan could beat Deadpool again “a hundred percent.”

While it looks unlikely that Jackman will ever get that chance again, since he’s stepping away from playing Wolverine after his next solo outing, there were rumors last year that Jackman made an appearance on the set of DEADPOOL and the actor has been coy about whether or not he’d make cameos in any other X-films before he hangs up the claws.

We certainly don’t have long to wait to find out whether or not Jackman pops up in DEADPOOL, as the movie comes out in just a couple of weeks on February 12. I’ve always suggested it’d be funny if Jackman showed up as…Jackman, and Deadpool has a meta exchange with the actor where he decapitates him for ORIGINS. If any film could do that, it’d be this one.
