Jacob Bertrand Loves His On Screen Personas Of Both Hawk and Eli in Netflix’s Cobra Kai

One of the primary successes of Netflix’s Cobra Kai isn’t just the conflict between Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence. Divisions run deep with the sanseis down to their students.

Hawk (or also known as the other persona Eli) is one of the most memorable student characters in the bunch. With his signature mohawk as a throwback to the 80s, Hawk sports a large hawk tattoo and a take no prisoner attitude that makes him one of the most lovable villains on the series.

Jacob Bertrand plays the distinguishable character. On-screen, Bertrand seems to enjoy himself in the villainous character by being the bully and striking his enemies down without mercy.

When the cameras are off, Bertrand still enjoys this persona.

“I got to say this role is some of the most fun I’ve ever had in filming. I love everything that the writers will throw at me. I freaking love Hawk,” Bertrand told LRM Online’s Gig Patta during a virtual roundtable earlier this month. “I walk to Five Guys after we have wrapped to be waiting in line by going in with all this beat-up makeup, a black eye, and blood everywhere. Just standing there in line and then walking up to the guy to say, ‘I want a bacon burger.’ They’re like, ‘Oh, yeah, bro. Totally for sure.’ That’s super fun.”

Not to forget his other persona, Eli, Gig Patta also asked if he wants to ever return back to the low-key, shy, and humble character. Bertrand seems to embrace both personalities of his character.

He explained, “I actually really like when they bring Eli back because it’s another facet of the role. I love being able to do both sides of the character. It’s challenging and it’s a lot of fun. I just love getting to show the inner workings of him, his insecurities, and more. It’s a lot of fun. It’s very fascinating for me to do. I love the writers for it.”

No doubt we’ll look forward to both Hawk and Eli for season three of Cobra Kai. The new season of Cobra Kai streams starting this Friday, January 1st on Netflix.
