Yeah, I know. I love Idris Elba too. The dude has a ridiculous amount of charisma and is kind of perfect to take on the iconic character James Bond. For years, fans have been touting him as the perfect successor to Daniel Craig, but beyond wishful thinking, that’s pretty much gone nowhere. Now, on the heels of director Danny Boyle leaving the project, fans are opening up that box once again. Could this be Elba’s entry into the beloved franchise?

Good Morning Britain took the opportunity to confront Elba about this potential role, but when asked about whether or not he’s looking to play Bond, he responded with a friendly, albeit curt, “No,” as he walked away. You can check out the clip for yourself down below!

I really hate to crush your dreams, but I think it’s about time we accepted the reality that Idris Elba will NEVER play James Bond. And speaking of reality, the reality is that there are plenty other fantastic British actors — known and unknown — that can take on the role, and the sooner we accept that Elba won’t be doing it himself, the sooner we can speculate about who the next Bond could actually be.
