Gunn spoke with Deadline and how the finale has given us both the Checkmate team and Salvation. Salvation is a habitable planet that Rick Flagg Sr. and others plan to imprison metahumans from their own world. Lex Luthor and his cronies from Superman are very happy with this plan.
Whereas Checkmate is a new organisation formed from the 11th Street Kids and a few other former ARGUS employees. As for where they go next? We will gave to wait and see. However, from what Gunn says, it doesn’t sound like Peacemaker Season 3.
“Well, those are the two things that were always a part of this season. So when we sat down, even before I sat down with the writers room in DC, I had sort of mapped out what I thought the general story was, and two important aspects to that were Checkmate and especially Salvation.”
“Those were things that I had pitched to everybody before we ever came into DC and then after we came into DC and we met with the writers room and worked things out a little bit more. That was always pretty instrumental in the overall, overarching story that I’m telling in the DCU, but also connected to it as well.”

No Peacemaker Season 3… Yet.
“This is about the wider DCU and other stories in which this will play out right now. That doesn’t mean that there won’t be [Season 3]. I don’t want to never say never, but right now, no, this is about the future of the DCU.”
However, Gunn indicates that Checkmate will be back to foil the clearly villainous Rick Flagg Sr.
“You’ll definitely see Checkmate carrying through like they’re a thing now, so they’re a part of what’s going to happen, and I think they’re going to be really, really good at what they do. When we see them next, I think their circumstances will be a little bit different than the start-up that they are now.”
Gunn also spoke about Rick Flagg’s arc into villain from where he started in Creature Commandos and a few other little teases about Man of Tomorrow. Check the full interview out in the source link above.
Though he refuses to confirm which projects we will see any Peacemaker characters show up, it does seem like Flagg will be in Man of Tomorrow at least.
